Goldie Boathouse, built in 1882 and Grade II listed, is reckoned to be the oldest surviving boathouse in Cambridge. It stands on the River Cam and started life as the University's own boathouse. Its name honours J. H. D. Goldie, a president of Cambridge University Boat Club (CUBC), whose name was also given to the University's second crew.

From boat store to training base

Boats used to be kept here, but the former boat bays have been converted to a gymnasium for ergometer and weight training. The CUBC uses the building for fitness work and administration, with its offices, a physiotherapy treatment centre and the club's sports-science research programme all under one roof. A rowing tank allows indoor training on water.

Seeing it

Because it is a working training base, this is a building to look at from the riverside rather than a visitor attraction, so check with the club before planning a visit. The similarly listed Old Combined Boathouse stands close by.
