Long Road Sixth Form College
A state sixth form college beside the Biomedical Campus, open since 1974 on a 23-acre site.
Long Road Sixth Form College is a state college for 16 to 19 year olds, set beside the Cambridge Biomedical Campus on the road that gives it its name. It was established in 1974 on the 23-acre site of the former Cambridgeshire High School for Girls, a grammar school, and some of its present buildings date from that earlier period.
Courses
Its website groups the offer into A levels, Level 3 applied courses, Level 4 foundation courses, Level 2 diplomas, GCSEs and the Extended Project Qualification. A page called Qualifications Explained helps applicants see where each fits. The college also lists a Basketball Academy and a scholarship linked to a local football club, alongside a programme of student activities that changes each academic year.
The site
A sports centre opened in 2005, the first addition of its kind at the college since 1939. Playing fields, a floodlit hockey pitch, outdoor courts and a gym complete the sports provision, and outside clubs, including a hockey club and a basketball club, use the grounds as a home venue.
Hills Road Sixth Form College also dates from 1974.
Practical notes
Open evenings, the prospectus and applicant information are on the college website. The site also has a travelling-to-college page and a journey planner.
