La Maison du Steak
An independent, family-owned steakhouse on Hills Road, open since 2013.
La Maison du Steak is a steakhouse at 125 Hills Road. It describes itself as a family-owned, independent business, and its website says it opened in 2013.
The story
The restaurant grew out of an earlier venture. According to its website, the same family opened a French cafe called Le Gros Franck on Hills Road in 1999, which at the time was the only independent French restaurant in the city. One of that cafe's best sellers was steak frites with homemade bearnaise sauce, and the dish led to the steakhouse that followed.
What it serves
The menu specialises in different cuts of steak, from sirloin to cote de boeuf, ; the website calls the dishes authentic and traditional. The restaurant says it aims to be affordable and welcoming. The website also lists two street-food vans, Pull Me Cheri and Ling Ling's Steam Kitchen, linked to the same business.
Practical notes
It is open every day, from 12 noon to 9 pm on Monday and Sunday, to 9.30 pm from Tuesday to Thursday and to 10 pm on Friday and Saturday. Reservations are taken only by phone, on 01223 324258, or through the website, so walk-in availability is not something to rely on at busy times.
