Local's tip

Pre-orders and new releases are listed online, so you can reserve a coming record before it lands.

Lost in Vinyl is an independent record shop at 14 Magdalene Street, in the Castle area of this guide. The shop's own description is of a curated selection of vinyl across several genres, running from the latest releases to long-established classics.

Browsing

The website organises the stock into box sets, dance, electronic and experimental, funk, soul and R&B, hip-hop and rap, jazz, rock, pop, folk and blues, soundtracks and modern instrumental, and world music. There are separate pages for pre-orders and new releases. Pre-orders are listed with their release dates, so a forthcoming record can be reserved ahead of time.

Ordering and returns

Orders can be placed online as well as in the shop. Records are packed in mailers with stiffeners and bubble wrap, and a note on the order form lets a buyer ask for a disc to be sent outside its sleeve to avoid seam splits. A 28-day return policy covers faulty items, including pre-orders counted from the release date. A weekly email announces new arrivals.

Practical notes

The opening times on the shop's about page are Tuesday to Saturday from half past ten until seven, and Sunday and Monday from eleven until five. The page also notes occasional early closures, so check before making a special trip. This is slightly different from the shorter hours recorded on the open map, and the shop's own page is the better guide.
