The Royal Standard
A Mill Road freehouse for Belgian beer, real cider and souvlaki.
The Royal Standard is a pub at 292 Mill Road. The pub says it is home to the largest selection of draught Belgian beer in Cambridge, and the rest of its bar is just as specialised: real cider from around the country, local and regional real ale, and modern UK craft beer.
Food
Greek street food comes from a business called Tzatziki, which the pub describes as the home of the original Tzatziki. Souvlaki and skepastis feature on the menu, ordered through QR codes at the tables, and the same kitchen also runs a takeaway and delivery service. The pub opens from midday every day.
Awards and drinks
The pub's website lists a run of recognitions. The Cambridge and District branch of CAMRA named it Community Pub of the Year for 2025, LocAle Pub of the Year for 2024 and Real Cider Pub of the Year for 2023, and gave it a Most Improved Pub award in 2016. It also lists four years as a Chouffe Ambassador (2022 to 2025) and entries in the Good Beer Guide from 2022 to 2025.
Beyond beer, the bar stocks more than thirty gins, plus rums, vodkas, liqueurs and whiskies from Scotland, Japan, England, Ireland and America. The same management runs the Cambridge Blue (see The Cambridge Blue) and the Blue Moon.
Practical notes
Beer lists change often, and the pub publishes current draught, cider, wine and spirits lists on its website. Check them before a visit if you have a particular beer in mind.
