Butch Annie's is a burger and steak restaurant at 23 Market Street, steps from Market Square in the city centre. Its website calls it an iconic neighbourhood spot and says people have been coming for well over a decade.

Food and drink

The kitchen specialises in hand-crafted burgers and what the restaurant calls proper steaks. The restaurant says it works with small-scale farmers who keep native-breed herds, and that the beef is dry-aged on the bone for up to 35 days. Drinks get equal billing: small-batch local beers and ciders on tap, a short wine list, classic cocktails, gin and tonic made with Cambridge Gin, and thick shakes made to order with locally made ice cream and organic milk.

Practical notes

The restaurant is open every day from midday to 10pm. You can book a table on the website or by phoning 01223 361792. Groups of up to 50 can be accommodated, and the whole restaurant can be hired for up to 100 guests from Sunday to Friday. The site also has separate menu pages for burgers, steaks and drinks, so it is easy to look over what is on offer before arriving, and there is a careers link for anyone who wants to join the kitchen or front-of-house team. The address is 23 Market Street, Cambridge CB2 3PA.
