King's College School
The choir school of King's College, a co-educational prep school on West Road with roots in 1441.
The school is a mixed prep school on West Road, off Grange Road. It began with the founding of King's College by Henry VI in 1441, when it was set up to educate the boys who sang in the chapel choir. The school's own website speaks of more than 500 years of history, and the choristers remain at the heart of it.
Choristers and the chapel
The choristers of the college choir, which sings at King's College Chapel, are educated at the school, and its website lists a chorister admissions process alongside general entry. A girls' choral programme, Schola Cantorum, also appears on the website. Girls were admitted to the school from 1976.
School structure
The site divides the school into a Pre-Prep from Reception to Year 2, Juniors in Years 3 and 4, and Seniors in Years 5 to 8. A boarding house, open to boys and girls, was first established on the present West Road site in 1878, and the school moved away from college ground over time. The college continues to play a part in running and funding it.
The school also runs Little King's Music Makers, a programme for children from birth to age 4.
Practical notes
Admissions, open days and fees are listed on the school website.
