A north-bank road running from Chesterton Lane towards Elizabeth Way, with a run of restaurants facing Jesus Green.
Chesterton Road is part of the A1303 on the north side of Cambridge, on the far bank of the Cam from Jesus Green. The A1303 comes in from Madingley Road via Northampton Street and Chesterton Lane, and Chesterton Road finishes at a roundabout on Elizabeth Way. Its western end meets Victoria Road and Milton Road beside Victoria Avenue Bridge, and the Jesus Lock footbridge ties the road to the green.
Several places to eat sit along the road. The Waterman is a pub with rooms at number 32. Restaurant Twenty-Two is at number 22 and its sibling bistro Margaret's at number 18. Further along come the all-day cafe Cofein, Royal Spice and Ranya Grill. Clare College also has a site on the road, Castle Court.
In October 2000 a sewer shaft dug where Chesterton Lane meets Magdalene Street exposed the rotted remains of a wooden box, buried on the site of a former house. It held coins from the 13th and 14th centuries: 1,805 silver pennies, plus nine in gold.
